15th – 19th of Pharast, 4710
The party decided to first finish exploring the surroundings of the Old Sycamore – doing os they ran into a field in which a Trapdoor Spider had made its lair. Sundu got surprised, pierced by its mandibles and barely made it out of its grip – the spider then attacked Spark as well, but retreated without food into her hole. The party was unable to crack it’s shell of stone and mud, and decided to move on. After exploring the area, the party returned to Oleg’s trading post. On the way it became clear that Vossler had contracted a disease from the Tick‘s attacks earlier. Both Vossler and Spark asked Lorum Kavken for help with their ailments. The party spent 2 days in the camp before setting out again, promising Lorum that they’d make his quest their first pririty as soon as they finished their plans with the Kobolds. On the morning of the 19th of Pharast the party set out to make contact with the kobold settlement. Mikmek finally guided them to the Oaktop Silver Mine. (The Taldens, who dug a lot of mines when they initially tried to tame the place now known as The Stolen Lands, also left behind the place which the kobolds now inhabit.) Mikmek went in first to announce the party and neutralize any established ambushes. The guard at the entrance was called Nakpik and the two kobolds accompanied the party through the kobold caves to Chief Sootscale‘s lair.
The chief was relatively hostile until the party mentioned the statue, which he demanded to be given to him. Upon recieving it, he threw it on the ground, stating that the “curse” had been lifted. The kobolds and Chief Sootscale immediately set off and told the party to follow and kill the “traitors”. Several Kobolds, probably associates of the shaman, were overwhelmed and executed as the mob moved onward to the chambers of the Shaman Tartuk. Tartuk immediately attacked Chief Sootscale with stinking cloud and tried to flee. Elaver and Spark got caught in the blast and were nauseated for the events that followed, but Elaver still allowed Vossler and Sundu to circle around through the kobold tunnels, trying to cut off any pursuers and enter combat despite the stinking cloud through which Spark followed the chief. Chief Sootscale pursued Tartuk, kept resisting his spells, pinpointed the shaman’s location when he turned invisible and finished the by now gravely wounded shaman off after Spark revealed him with a faerie fire spell and the shaman failed to defensively cast his last resort spell.
