The party rested for a night, healed up as well as possible and returned to the home of the mites to root out the plague. They were met with no resistance on their way back down the hole, but triggered 2 traps in the narrow corridor next to the known mite tunnels. Despite their efforts to stab all the perceived tunnels, when they finally advanced and engaged the mites again, the little pests had other tunnels ready and once again swarmed the party. Both their tick and the massive centipede were standing again, and the centipede knocked out spark shortly after the fight started, as well as incapacitating him with its poison. Despite being one man (or lizard) down, the party finally managed to kill the centipede. Seeing their monstrous pet die, the remaining mites fought with increased vigor until the larger ones fell at which point the rest fled in terror, abandoning their burrow and their chief, Grabbles. the party finished off the unconscious mites, took Grabbles captive and then tried to explore the rest of the burrow. The lowest level was separated by a deep crevasse, which seemed too much of a risk to traverse or explore at that time, considering the party’s lack of a climb speed. By climbing all the way back up and taking the other path, the party was able to find and rescue a sole Kobold, named Mikmek, that had been tortured. Vossler stripped the centipede of its exoskeleton for chitin plates. The party left the burrow to rest up again, and talked to Mikmek. The Kobold kept stressing the importance of the statue and shared a few details on the relationship with the mites – apparently the new shaman had instigated the conflict. Spark also spent some time with Grabbles, reaching a deal that in exchange for their treasure and his guidance through the tunnels, Grabbles would be set free on a mount and be allowed to bring a few pouches of eggs for a new colony – if he ever crossed the party’s ways again though, Spark promised that they would kill him. The next morning the party returned with Grabbles as their guide and prisoner. Inside the crevasse they finally found the statue the kobolds seemed to be looking for, as well as a sack of “shinies”. Grabbles was led back outside, set free with a mount spell to support him and with 3 pouches of centipede eggs. While Spark saw him off the party removed the heads of the mites as proof of their deeds and transported the chitin out of the burrow.
